In the Picture: Organisers and a few cartoonists...

I'm back from the Maya Kamath Memorial Award Ceremony. Had a wonderful time meeting talented cartoonists from different cities. This is really a great achievement by the Indian Institute of Cartoonists. There is finally a pedestal for cartoonists in India. They are really encouraging alot of artists both professional and amateur ones. The Institute regulalry has exhibitions, seminars and will soon have a library of books. A big thanks to them!

A very interesting article about a thief named Madhu who is not an ordinary thief. He wears expensive Safari suits, drives luxury cars, owns a restaraunt and has built a Ganesh temple. He even pays taxes. And the best part is he calls his wife and lawyers just before a break-in to keep the documents ready for bail.

I was commissioned to do an illustration of the famous Japanese born Writer- Director Akira Kurosawa for a men's magazine called Maxim. Some of his famous films - Seven Samurai, Ran, Rashomon and many more. It was a double spread illustration and had to either keep it monotone or grayscale. Doing monotone or grayscale always help in concentrating on the values more than the color. It's so important to get your values right. Values is King!

I had a great time illustrating these witty one-liners for Dr.Tushar Shah (doctor and a stand up comedian who's first television debut was on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge). He has come up with a book called "Prescription Laughs" that has over 1200 funny medical quotes by him and other wonderful people. Dr.Tushar is truly very talented and a very funny man. It was an honor to be a part of his book. To keep to the overall mood of the book, I had to use only 4 colors mainly earthly tones.
